DSO 'FLARE FACTORY'

FLARE FACTORY 58 (EF MOUNT) - Limited Redux

£275.00
  • 58mm focal length

  • f2-f16 fluid aperture (or fixed aperture of various configuration)

  • 52mm filter thread

  • Brass EF lens mount

Let’s bring this lens back for a limited period. These are made one at a time to your spec, and we’ll ensure all lenses are shipped in time for Christmas.

The Flare Factory 58 is made using salvaged optical components from the former USSR.  Each lens is meticulously dissembled, cleaned and reassembled using uprated mechanical parts and modern lubricants.

Since each lens is made to order we can configure your lens with a number of special treatments. These include:-

  • Oval apertures - producing oval defocus distortion

  • Removal of optical coatings - affecting contrast

  • Careful degradation of optical surfaces / edges - promoting off axis flaring / rainbow fans

  • Application of light sensitive coloured pigments - these react to light levels in a scene and create dynamic shifts in the colour rendering of the image.  Since the effects are more prominent in the shadows and midtones the effect is different to that of a front mounted gel filter.  The result is very similar to the affects of using expired film stock where colour shift is often unpredictable and dependent on the extent of expiration and how the stock is exposed.

  • External Finish - Brushed aluminium, Matte Black, Rat (Rusty)

After you add to cart you will be able to provide extra information about your lens spec if you want a spec from our early days!

Never expect an immaculate piece of mass produced modernness, but an item which is crafted with the utmost care while preserving the humbleness and optical character of glass which was born circa 1970.  If the glass made it past Q.C in the 1960's, it's good enough for us!
